There is no doubt that Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest film of 2018 and is arguably the best film from Marvel Cinematic Universe until now. The thing that makes it so awesome is, the great deal of suspense and shocks sprinkled across the film, and throughout the two and a half hours of the movie, there were plenty of revelations and fan service moments which were loved by the audiences. However, after having watched Avengers: Infinity War, fans have a lot more questions about Avengers 4 than they had before it.
The cause of all these questions is due to the fact that the film has disclosed a lot of new things which will take proper shape in Avengers 4. Among the several mind-boggling revelations, there were a few which were widely speculated even before the film’s release. However, there was one massive revelation which nobody had imagined. It was not even revealed properly in the comic books, so it was unthinkable until the film released in theaters. This major revelation was nothing else, but, the Soul Stone.
Contrary to the various crazy theories doing the rounds online, the Soul Stone was revealed to be on Vormir, something none could have guessed. There were crazy theories like Heimdall being the Soul Stone to outlandish ones like Soul Stone having been lost in space and time, but, none were correct. However, the way to retrieve the Soul Stone was kind of predicted.
The Avengers: Infinity War trailers had hinted at a relationship between Thanos and his beloved daughter. Therefore, it led to speculation about the absence of Soul Stone in the MCU until now. The reason was it necessitated sacrificing the soul of a loved one: a soul for a soul. That’s precisely what we saw in the film when Thanos and Gamora met the Red Skull at Vormier, who had been teleported to that planet by the Space Stone several decades ago during Captain America: The First Avenger.
It turned out to be quite fascinating because of the unpredictability, but, why it was revealed so late is something we wanted to find out. It was clear that the Soul Stone was the most crucial of them all and that’s why to get hold of it, a seeker had to sacrifice a loved one. That is something the Infinity War writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely exploited by making it happen through Thanos who had the motive of restoring the universal balance.
The writers also elaborated about the various other theories related to the Soul Stone which they read, and according to them, they liked and considered the “Wakanda” theory to be a possibility. They said that it could have been possible that the Soul Stone was in Wakanda and that’s why the souls of the Wakandans were there. However, that would have meant one more stone on planet Earth which already had two Stones, and if there was another one on Earth, then the rest of them which were scattered across the galactic space would have lost value.
During a podcast recently, the writer duo was questioned about why it remained a mystery for such a long time? Whether they wanted to tease fans since it was quite a massive puzzle for them to solve? This is what they said:
Markus: “Not specifically to torment you or make you wrong, but we wanted it somewhere very meaningful to Thanos, and pure to the movie so that it wasn’t ‘we’re going over here to revist…ya know.
McFeely: “We already had that problem right? You knew a lot of places where the stones were so if you knew every one of them there was going to be much less mystery, and just on a screenwriting level, it was really important to us to have a mystery. What does Gamora know that you all don’t know?”
