The next huge entry in the DCEU will be Shazam! This movie will start a whole new franchise within the shared Universe and the film it will lead us into the next chapter -Black Adam.
Dwayne Johnson will play the role of Black Adam, and this actor is very famous for his roles in Jumanji and the Fast and Furious franchise.
Black Adam is a pretty big character in the DC Comics world, and instead of telling a half-developed story that focuses on Shazam, it is actually for Black Adam to get his very own origin story. Now, his character is pretty different from Shazam and dates back to ancient history. He was not the villain that we know him to be now, and he stands along the lines of an Anti-hero.
The plan for WB’s Shazam franchise will be to introduce the character, Billy Batson and then turn the focus on Black Adam. WB will then pit the two against each other in a third film. While all the fans are less than 2 months away from the movie, Shazam! the Black Adam film is farther than we can even imagine.
Dany Garcia and Dwayne Johnson’s production company ‘Seven Bucks Productions had representatives who had spoken to Variety promoting Fighting with My Family:
“We’re also ramping up a couple big projects like “Black Adam”, and our goal is to get that going at the top of 2020. The script is coming along well, and we’re in the polishing phase now and are looking to attach the right director to it. A lot of people consider Dwayne a superhero already, so to finally have him play one on screen in the DC universe is a dream for us.”
Technically this movie should release in 2021 if the film starts its production by next year, but since there are two huge DC movies already scheduled for June and August, it might be unlikely for the fans to get another film in 2021. So the year, 2022 should actually be an ideal one for the release of Black Adam:
The President of Seven Bucks Productions, Hiram Garcia had confirmed that Black Adam will be set in the same Universe as Shazam:
“Seven Bucks helped develop Shazam, and while the film exists in the same universe as our upcoming Black Adam film, both projects have their own unique tone and vibe. We’re so excited with how the movie turned out, and Zachary Levi is perfect as Shazam. Not only is he an extremely talented big guy, that got even bigger for the role, but his good-natured spirit comes through wonderfully when having to portray a 14-year-old in the body of a superhero. This movie is a lot of fun!”
