Captain Marvel is now ready for its opening weekend in theatres – and this is going to surely be a record-setting opening.
Heading to the debut preview night showings, Captain Marvel is now helping Marvel Studios shatter the record set by DC/Warner Bros. as Captain Marvel is shown in 4,310 theatres for its opening weekend, and has beaten the 4,242 theatre opening set by the film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
This is actually a nice record for the studio who is trying to push for maximum exposure for a movie’s launch, and it is also a great way to start a war within the DC and Marvel fandom.
Batman v Superman’s opening weekend had generated a few impressive numbers ($166 million), but this movie had provoked a lot of bad word of mouth, and this resulted in some drop-offs in business.
Marvel Studios surely wants no parts of this legacy. Captain Marvel is now shaping up to be one of the hardest MCU to call, in terms of its performance. The movie is gearing up for a huge international opening and is selling the most presale tickets since the film, Avengers: Infinity War.
With all these indicators of one more breakout MCU movie, the film has stirred some controversy, as a few self-proclaimed anti-SJW fans have ‘reviewed-bombed’ the movie on some aggregate sites. Brie Larson has also been attacked for her outspoken progressive views about the film industry.
Captain Marvel is now showing in theatres. Upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies include Avengers: Endgame on April 26th, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th.
