The actor, Eddie Murphy is now coming back to the huge screen with a long-awaited sequel of Coming to America, and this movie has now gotten a director.
According to a whole new Deadline report, Paramount has now hired the filmmaker, Craig Brewer for directing the Coming to America sequel film. Murphy is now attached to this project and is reprising his role as the African prince character, Akeem. Brewer is well-known for directing Black Snake Moan, Hustle & Flow, and the remake of Footloose.
A part of the reason why hat Brewer has landed this gig had been his involvement with Eddie Murphy, having directed this actor in the upcoming Netflix movie, Dolemite Is My Name. Murphy had been super eager to work with Brewer and Coming to America 2.
The screenplay for Coming to America 2 is now being rewritten by Kenya Barris. The initial draft of this script had come from the original Coming to America writers, David Sheffield and Barry Blaustein. Murphy is now producing this movie with Kevin Misher, and Barris will be the executive producer.
“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy had said.
“We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
“Craig’s ability to create a distinct cinematic world with each of his films is not only impressive but also what made him exactly the voice and vision we needed to bring this story to life,” Barris had added.
“From Hustle and Flow to his work with Eddie on Dolemite Is My Name, he never fails to blow me away. He is a true auteur, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board.”
