It now seems like Gambit, Doctor Doom and X-Force, have been shelved. Many of the fans had been wondering how Disney’s acquisition of Fox would ultimately affect the current Marvel movies that are now in development, and with this deal now set to be finalised in March, we might have actually lost three films. It looks like Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige might have a few other plans of introducing the Fox Marvel properties to the MCU, which may be pretty great.
Out of these three films, it seems like Doctor Doom and Gambit are not making it through. Both these projects have been in development for a long time without any real momentum. Gambit had come very close to production with the actor, Channing Tatum. Since the talks of this acquisition had started, many of the fans had believed that there had been a real possibility the films to be shelved, so this should not really come as a huge surprise.
The Deadpool creator, Rob Liefeld had replied to a post on social media, and he had said, “Pour one out for ol’ X-Force. Victim of the merger.$800 million grosser easy.” This actually makes it seem like this project is dead with Gambit and Doctor Doom. As Liefeld has stated, this film may be a big success, after in the footsteps of the film, Deadpool 2. The actor, Ryan Reynolds has also said that Deadpool 3 may not happen and that X-Force will take place. Bob Iger, the Disney CEO has also spoken about all his intentions of bringing the Deadpool to Marvel Studios.
If X-Force has been shelved, then Marvel fans would surely not be happy. Drew Goddard is now on board to pen and also direct this film, which will reunite Domino, Deadpool and Cable, with either the previous X-Force featured in the movie, Deadpool 2. Given that this sequel had been one of the biggest films of the year, 2018, it seems like a no-brainer to actually continue with this project. However, it is not clear how the actor, Ryan Reynolds and the crew may be able to work with Disney, considering that they always work best under R-rated umbrellas.
As for Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, these movies have wrapped up their production, and they will be unaffected by the Disney/Fox deal. Since this deal is now getting all set to wrap up, it is going to be super interesting to see how Marvel Studios will bring in the Fox Marvel properties and also introduce them into the MCU. Although Doctor Doom, X-Force, and Gambit are shelved as of now, Kevin Feige may have already planned to get all of them back into development soon.
