While making an announcement for her Our Shared Shelf book club, the former Harry Potter actress and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson shared her Halloween costume for this year. Considering the fact that Our Shared Shelf is the book club that Watson started in order to promote women empowerment using literature, and it is quite apt that she decided to put on the costume of DC’s Wonder Woman.
On the Our Shared Shelf Goodreads page, Watson mentioned the reasons why she started the book club. “There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode,” Watson wrote. “I decided to start a feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too.”
However, Wonder Woman has been creating ripples in the world of female-led movies. The female superhero has always been a key DC icon and has appeared in scores of comic books and TV shows. It was the Patty Jenkins helmed Wonder Woman film last year, starring Israeli beauty Gal Gadot as the lead star, that made Princess Diana a global icon.
Therefore, it is obvious that this portrayal of Wonder Woman is the one that inspired Emma Watson to put on the costume as she goes on promoting her ever-expanding book club. The photo also makes us wonder what kind of a film would be the one that features a team-up between Wonder Woman and Yoda, but, that is not exactly the point here.
