Well, by now, all the Marvel fans would know that Thanos had wiped out half of the universe in the movie, Avengers: Infinity War. The Mad Titan had explained that his goal was to reduce the number of people so that there would be more resources for everyone. However, could there have actually been much more to this than we saw?
According to Redditor, jlefrench, his fan theory suggests that the Mad Titan had collected the Infinity Stones in order to stop Galactus from consuming planets. As this theory reads, Thanos’ home planet, Titan had been ravaged by Galactus and since Galactus is after worlds that are “ripe,” the purple cosmic villain had taken it upon himself to ravage all of the worlds to try and to make them less desirable for Galactus.
This whole situation kind of explains why Thanos had not doubled the resources so that everyone could actually remain alive. If the Mad Titan had created more resources, then the planets would be “meatier” and more attractive to Galactus.
As for why Thanos had told everyone that it was about resources, well, he could have been using this as a front so that he would not be looked upon as someone who feared Galactus.
In the fashion of Marvel Studios, this story had been left open enough so that they could actually add something in an upcoming property and it would end up fitting in the whole storyline.
Captain Marvel is in theatres now. Other upcoming Marvel Studios films include Avengers: Endgame on April 26th and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th.
