James Gunn: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Will “End This Iteration of the Guardians”

Although most of the members of this team, barring Rocket and Nebula have already been killed in Avengers: Infinity War, especially the shocking death of Gamora, it is clear that most of them will somehow find a way to return in Avengers 4. Stars like Chris Pratt, PomKlementieff, and Dave Bautista have revealed that they will reprise their characters in the next year’s team up film from Marvel and also in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which might release in May 2020. The sad truth is that even if they do come back as a team, it would only be for a short duration and then they will all be separated again.

Using Twitter to interact with his fans, James Gunn mentioned what might be in store for the fans of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although he didn’t give any details about the film, he said that “Vol 3 will end this iteration of the Guardians and complete the story of the three films.” You can check his tweet below:

It must be observed that it is not yet known where the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be on the timeline of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier it was stated that the film was to be based on the events after Avengers 4, some recent remarks by Russo brothers indicate that this might happen in the time gap between the solo movies of the characters and Avengers: Infinity War. That way, it is not certain that the dead characters will be revived in Avengers 4. As far as the Guardians are concerned, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 events had been four years before they first met Thor. As this might be the case, it is surprising to see how there was no reference to any of the previous missions of the team in Avengers: Infinity War, especially taking into account how the director/writer has been vocal about the importance of the third volume in the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Apart from directing the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Gunn is also in charge of the cosmic segment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It could be possible that by ending this core team of Guardians would result in launching various other spinoffs and that is something he has earlier mentioned too. What fascinates us, however, is that the end would not really the end of the characters, but, their separation and they might come together again in future or will it really be their last adventure as a team?
