Talking to EW about the costume’s design, the film’s director David Sandberg disclosed that he was inspired by various Shazam costumes, from the iconic comic books as well as the animated TV series.

“I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman,” Sandberg said about the costume. “It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for.”

In case DC Films is aiming to pick up a brighter theme after the darker movies such as Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, this Shazam! costume is definitely a step in the right direction.

Although Shazam! will land in cinemas in next spring only, there are reports indicating that the movie’s first visuals are likely to be unveiled next week during the Warner Bros Hall H presentation at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. It has already been confirmed that the Aquaman trailer will be shown at the event, but, we now hear about the possibility of a sneak peek at Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 as well.

Shazam! releases in theaters on April 5, next year whereas the other two films currently being made by DC are Aquaman scheduled to release on December 21 this year and Wonder Woman 1984 set to premiere on November 1, 2019.
