Sonic The Hedgehog Film: Jim Carrey Set To Play Robotnik


Deadline has reported via their sources that Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Dr. Ivo Eggman” in the under-development live-action/CGI movie Sonic The Hedgehog from Paramount Pictures.

Carrey will join a cast comprising James Marsden and TikaSumpter in the movie that will be directed by Jeff Fowler and is scheduled to hit the big screen in 2019.

The film is produced by Neal Moritz, Tim Miller, and Mie Onishi whereas Pat Casey and Josh Miller have scripted it.

The movie shows Sonic and team trying to foil the plans of global domination by Dr. Eggman. Simply said, if you have seen Sonic earlier, you would have a good idea of the concept.

The Canadian-American star, Jim Carrey is renowned for his work in How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Ace Ventura, The Mask, and The Truman Show etc. Carrey had last appeared in Dark Crimes and Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond. He currently produces his Showtime series I’m Dying Up In Here.

Apart from playing Robotnik, Carrey is also the producer of another upcoming Showtime series titled Kidding, which will also feature him and will release in September.

Fowler will be debuting as a director with Sonic The Hedgehog, and he has previously been nominated for an Academy Award for Gopher Broke (2004) in the  Best Animated Short Film category.

So far, the response to this development, especially from Sonic fans has been a display of mixed feelings.
