No matter what you might think about it, but, it is extremely difficult to get an entry in the movie world because roles can change in seconds. It is not a walk in the park to land the role, and even if you succeed in the audition, you might not always get the role that you wanted. There are a lot of actors who tried getting the role of the hero in films, believing they had it in them. However, luck turned them towards a very different direction. Here we bring to you five actors who auditioned and screen-tested to play a different role in the movies. Go ahead and check out who wanted to become a hero, but, got cast as a villain.
1. Tom Hiddleston – Thor(2011)
Tom Hiddleston auditioned to play Thor, but, Chris Hemsworth beat the competition that included his real brother Liam Hemsworth, and became worthy of the hammer. The director Craig Kyle told Geeky Tyrant:
“At first Tom came in for Thor. He trained. He came in. He was ripped. He did a tremendous job, but he wasn’t Thor.”
2. Sam Rockwell – Iron Man 2 (2010)
The American actor Sam Rockwell wanted to play Tony Stark, but, eventually played the role of a villain Justin Hammer in the movie. According to LA Times, the movie’s director Jon Favreau said:
“He was one of the actors I was looking at for Tony Stark. There were some things he would bring to the role that would have been great. Sam is very charismatic, and when I was looking at the character there was a list, and he had a spot on it, which might have surprised some people. Robert surprised some people, too, though, and now he is Tony Stark, he owns that role. Sam would have come up with interesting and different things.”
3. Cillian Murphy – Batman Begins (2005)
Cillian Murphy wanted to get the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, but, he got cast as Jonathan Crane (Scarecrow) in the Dark Knight Trilogy. Here is what Christopher Nolan had to say about Murphy’s audition, according to Geeky Tyrant.
“We also had Cillian Murphy screen-test for Batman. He wasn’t right for that part in the way that Christian was. But the performance was incredible, and everybody took huge notice of it while we were shooting it and while we watched the tests. I then was able to go to the studio and ask to put him in as Crane, as Scarecrow.”
4. James Franco – Spider-Man (2002)
The American star and moviemaker, James Franco played the role of Harry Osborne in Spider-Man (2002). However, he had first auditioned for Peter Parker, a role that eventually went to Tobey Maguire.
