The Belarusian former swimmer who specializes in sprint freestyle and backstroke events and who represented Belarus in the Summer Olympics in 2012 is none other than Aliaksandra Herasimenia.
She was born on 31st December in 1985 in Minsk, Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union. Her parents are Viktor Herasimenia and Oksana Herasimenia.
She first won two bronze medals in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke in the European Championship Long Course in Berlin. That year, she also won two silvers in the 50-meter freestyle and 4×50-meter freestyle in the European Championship Short Course. In 2003, she was banned for two years for a positive test for norandrosterone. She won a bronze in the 50-meters backstroke at the European Championship in 2005. She won two silver medals in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle in Summer Olympics in London in 2012. In 2011, she won gold at the World Championships. She also won a gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the World Championships Long Course. She won another gold in the 50-meter freestyle at the European Championships Short Course. In 2013, she won three gold medals in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle, and a 50-meter butterfly in the Summer Universiade. In 2011 and 2013, she won silver medals in 50-meter backstroke in Shenzhen and Kazan respectively. In 2015, she won a bronze in the 4×50-meter mixed medley at the European Championships Short Course. In 2016, she won a bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the 50-meter freestyle. She also won a bronze in 50-metre in the World Championships Long Course in Budapest in 2017. She took retirement from professional swimming in 2019.
