A whole new live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel, The Witches, is now on its way to the fans from Robert Zemeckis, and he has just added the actress, Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch. Anjelica Huston had played this character for the adaptation in the year, 1990.
The story is about on a seven-year-old boy who stumbles into the world of witches, and he also uncovers their secrets and also hopes to expose them to the world. Zemeckis has also said that this movie will be a much more accurate reflection of its source:
“We’re going to set it in the Gothic South in the 1960s,” Zemeckis ha said.
“It’s an exciting way to put a sociological spin on this kind of witch story.”
The original novel had leaned heavily into a fantasy realm, as the protagonist’s grandmother had been a former witch hunter who has taught him lessons about the supernatural beings. While the previous adaptation was not a huge success, it had been developed a cult following over the past few years. Another element of this movie that had stood out had been the many special effects makeups, a meeting of witches that depicted the characters removing many forms of disguises to display their horrific selves.
Deadline had added, “We also hear Viola Davis is circling the project as well.”
Zemeckis had confirmed this project last summer, although Guillermo del Toro had been attached to this adaptation.
Hathaway is well-known to comic book audiences for the actress’ role as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, and also, Ocean’s 8, The Princess Diaries, Les Misérables and Alice in Wonderland.
There is no word as of now regarding when the fans can expect this movie to debut.
