Avengers: Infinity War was a huge film, and it ushered in several new elements. However, the most impactful new thing that fans loved was the new Axe hammer wielded by Thor: Stormbreaker. The new weapon ensured that Thor brought to screen one of the best or maybe the all-time best MCU moment until now. We will again see him use Stormbreaker in Avengers 4, and Thanos is going to be doomed in the upcoming movie. Thor won’t hesitate in going for the head!
We all love the incredibly powerful Stormbreaker. It can invoke the Bifrost at will, and it also has the power to render the combined force of the Six Infinity Stones ineffective, but, we are still going to miss the renowned Mjolnir. The one thing that made Mjolnir truly special was the condition that only the worthy could wield the weapon and it was not simply something that anyone with strength could lift (barring Vision, Hela & Odin maybe).
Mjolnir had some magnetic appeal to it. It is great that we will see the hammer again in a time travel scene in the upcoming Avengers 4. Therefore, we will be able to see two of the iconic Thor weapons alongside, and we can’t wait for it.
Now, what makes Stormbreaker amazing is the Groot element. The scene where Groot stretched his arm to create the handle for the new axe was phenomenal. It also gave the weapon a unique appearance. Now a new Avengers 4 concept art depicting Stormbreaker has leaked online, and it gives us a deadly look at the axe-hammer. Check it out:
The Avengers: Infinity War showed how Thor was the most dangerous Avenger in the film, but, he made one mistake that allowed Thanos to steal his thunder (literally). Avengers: Infinity War could have been a Thor movie, but, eventually he missed the glory because he wanted a payback from Thanos for his deeds. He wanted the Mad Titan to know that he exacted his revenge. This is what the director Joe Russo said on the subject:
“I think he’s been on a very complicated journey where he struggles with his ability to feel worthy and be worthy. I think he’s looking for a moral compass in his life. What we love about him in Infinity War is that he has been torn down to his essential parts and he goes on a hero’s journey which a very underdog journey for someone of his stature because he has lost everything in his life.”
“In a lot of ways he is the driving hero’s arc of the movie which stands in direct opposition to Thanos’ argument. I would argue that head for chopped his head off at the end of the movie that the movie will belong to Thor but because he didn’t, it belongs to Thanos.”
“I would argue that the fan base could be equally upset with Thor, who chose to throw that axe into Thanos chest and not his head. Because he wanted to tell Thanos that he got his revenge.”
“Had he gone for a kill shot, that snap would not have happened,” he continued. “These are choices that characters who are feeling immense pain make and hopefully, the audience can learn to empathize with those characters because they can grow through stories. Stories can teach us things and that we should try to see every choice from the perspective of the character that made the choice.”
However, it is not a bad thing that he didn’t deliver the kill shot. That would have ended the story there, and we won’t have got the Avengers 4. His not opting for the kill shot also gave the scene a great value, and it led to the mayhem that followed. That is the reason why Avengers: Infinity War would be remembered as one of the greatest thriller films ever.
Now we will see Thor again in Avengers 4, and also his new as well as old weapons, and his long blonde hair too. The film is scheduled to release on May 3, 2019, and below is its official synopsis:
“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
