Bloom into You

‘Bloom into You’ is an anime adaptation of a yuri manga series illustrated by Nio Nakatani. This anime is one of the best recommended anime for girls because of its wonderful representation of gender identity. Yuu and Touko may fail to conform to the societal role conferred upon an individual based on their gender, but they gradually acknowledge it, that’s the way to make the audience more interested in this anime.

The lead character of this play is a high school student Yuu Koito, who rejects a proposal from a middle school classmate. She finds student council member Touko Nanami turning down another person. This makes her think that there may be some similarity in their emotions. When they get to share their feelings they discover a lot of similarity with each other and this formed an emotional bond between them. Touko confesses to Yuu, who does not reciprocate at that time. The rest of the story revolves around how both of them end up accepting their own identity and end up making a great couple.

The hint of this identity and acceptance of self is clear from a particular incident from the anime. Yuu makes Kayomi change the plot of the drama where she initially made the lead protagonist accept the societal roles, but after the change she makes the character accept her true identity. Maybe the context is different but the acceptance of one’s true self has been a recurring theme in this anime.
