The game has the context that the protagonist Arima Teppei loses her parents in a traffic accident. Isshin, his grandfather adopts him and orders him to lead their family business, Arima Group Corporation. When this happens, his new life as a celebrity begins in his school, Shuuhou Gakuen.
The game does not need much interaction from the player, as most of the game is covered with dialogues and narrative. There are multiple plots in the game and the outcome of the game depends upon the options that the player chooses in order to proceed to the next act of the game.
The game pauses every now and then for the player to choose from the variety of multiple options that he is given with respect to the situation. There are 4 main plots in this story and in order to understand the game fully, the player has to play it multiple times and choose different options each time.
33. Moon
Moon is a game about a mysterious organization named Fargo. The protagonist of the story is Ikumi Amasawa, a school girl. When the story begins, the players, through Ikumi’s role, we get to know that 6 years ago, her mother was mysteriously killed.
It is later discovered that her mother was the member of the Fargo organization. Ikumi enrolls and joins the organization in order to learn about his mother’s death and avenge the killer. However, as the story/game unfolds, we see dark secrets linked with Fargo.
The game is a drama and much of the time is spent on reading the narrative and dialogue and then choosing from the number of options given in the narrative. The game will pause until the player chooses an option and then goes on according to the decision made. The game has a branching storyline, with multiple endings, depending on the chosen options by the player.
34. X-Change 3
In the third installment of X Change, the player assumes the role of the protagonist Takuya Aihara for the ultimate time. An old character, Koji, reappears from the first installment. He was in the chemistry club in the first game. Koji is still trying to get Takuya Aihara’s different side mixed with him. Finally, he gets Asami Satoh to create more of the memory change potion secretly and approaches Takuya in order to trick her into getting it.
It is an eroge game produced by Crowd, and distributed by Peach Princess in English. The game is actually the final chapter in the trilogy and is the first game to be released in DVD ROM. its English release had been censored because of having the tears, blood and rape scene edited. Even a scene where the foreskin was referred to, between two boys, was deleted. The game was later moved to DVD Game and published by Blueberry Soft.
35. Higurashi When They Cry
The game takes place in a fictional village named Hinamizawa. The population is around 2000 and the main character is Keiichi Maebara. Keiichi moves to Hinamizawa. He befriends some of his new classmates, such as Rika Furude, Rena Ryugu, Satoko Hojo and Mion Sonozaki.
He also joins one of the after-school clubs. The club has many activities, such as card and board games and punishment games intended for the loser, mainly Keiichi.
Keiichi considers Hinamizawa to be a very peaceful and tranquil village but he finds out that during the annual festival of Watanagashi Festival – a celebration to worship and commemorate the local god named Oyashiro, every year, something strange happens.
One of the residents gets killed and another gets missing. The victims are usually from the group Keiichi is in. The gameplay usually contains reading the scenes, during which it pauses. There is a rating system at the end of each chapter where the difficulty level is rated.
