Shazam! will be released by April and will focus on the titular hero and the villain, Sivana. When this movie had been announced, it was expected to feature the actor, Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. However, a few BTS details had shifted, and Johnson’s character had been removed from this plot. While this Zachary Levi movie is not without nods to the DC Comics villain, Johnson will not debut in the movie, and it does not look like he is primed for the very first sequel:
“Listen, we don’t know, but I’ve gotta believe that there’s gonna be a standalone Black Adam movie before there’s ever a movie with Shazam and Black Adam sharing the screen,” The producer, Peter Safran had said.
It is no surprise that Black Adam will have his very own origin story movie before he clashes with Shazam!. The very future of DC Comics films will focus on telling character stories instead of an ensemble efforts.
“Yeah I think that is the goal, it is giving heroes their time to shine and not feeling like you have to shoehorn in some universal connection amongst them all,” Safran had explained.
“The studio’s been incredibly supportive, and DC’s been supportive about saying take the time that you need to introduce these characters in the right way and tell the stories that you really want to tell, and that the audiences really want to see with these characters.”
As the story goes, both Sandberg and Safran will come back to the Shazam! Sequel. Johnson has been an executive producer on Shazam! with Seven Bucks Productions team of Hiram Garcia and Dany Garcia.
“I have no warning shots to fire at Mr The Rock,” Levi had said.
“I would be honoured if you wanna come and be a part of our world that you’re also producing because your names on the yeah that’d be great.”
Shazam! will release on April 5.
