It seems like Disney is now considering a reboot of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and the writers of Deadpool, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese will be writing the script.

There has been no information if Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightley, and Johnny Depp, will return.

The movies have grown to become huge successes and have created a relationship with Depp, and his performance as Jack Sparrow had been praised. While Depp was plagued with many box-office bombs, the Pirates franchise will always be happy to have him return.

Earlier this year, many reports had emerged that another movie in this franchise in the pre-production stage and Joachim Rønning had been expected to reprise all the directing duties.

Rønning has a very busy schedule, and he is now working on Disney’s Maleficent 2, and so, the production of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will not start will 2020. This surely does raise a few questions like if the initial report had been inaccurate, and if the planned sequel will be a reboot.

If one or all of the original actors refuse to return to the reboot, then it makes sense for Disney to recast the roles and move on.

The original Pirates franchise had earned over $4 billion across 5 films within 14 years, and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 had earned just $794 million worldwide after the previous movie, Pirates 4 had earned $1 billion.
