Genie Bouchard is a Canadian professional tennis player who presently resides in the Bahamas. In the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, Genie became the major Canadian performer representing Canada to achieve the final of a Grand Slam tournament in singles. She also entered the semifinals of the 2014 Australian Opens and 2014 French Open. Having gained the 2012 Wimbledon girls’ crown, she was quoted WTA Newcomer of the Year at the end of the 2013 WTA Tour. Finally, Genie earned the WTA Most Improved Player award for the 2014 season and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 5, becoming the major Canadian female tennis player to be ranked in the top 5 in singles.
She began playing tennis at the age of five and was a member of Tennis Canada’s National Training Centre in Montreal. When she was just 12, year’s old she shifted to Florida with her mother to be coached by Nick Saviano, where she met one of her best childhood friends, tennis player Laura Robson. At the age of 15, Bouchard backed to Montreal for training.
A talented student in mathematics and science, she once considered a career as a physician. She is eloquent in French and English. Her favorite tennis player is Roger Federer, whom she confronted in 2012 at Wimbledon.
Obeying a mixed doubles match with Nick Kyrgios at the 2015 US Open, Genie backed to the women’s locker room at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center soon after 10 p.m. she then reached a physiotherapy room where she slipped and fell on the tiled floor and hit her head, causing a trauma. Following this, Genie was forced to withdraw from the remainder of the tournament, including a fourth-round match against eventual runner-up Roberta Vinci. In October 2015, five weeks later her fall, her lawyer Benedict Morelli filed a lawsuit against the USTA, alleging that Bouchard suffered a severe head injury because the floor of the women’s locker-room had been swabbed with a slippery, exotic and harmful substance.
