In one of the controversial scenes of the movie, Avengers: Infinity War, the character, Peter Quill/Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt and beaten Thanos and had woken him up from a slumber as the rest of the team was trying to remove the Gauntlet from him.
All the fans had taken sides on this issue, and a lot of the fans thought that the leader of the Guardians had ruined their shot at taking down Thanos. Now, a recent fan theory suggests that Star-Lord had been allowed to wake Thanos because it had been the only way for the Avengers and the Guardians to win in the end.
Posted to /r/FanTheories by /u/Riobhain, this theory states that Thanos had been holding back on Titan because he had a majority of the stones and he had been trying to not to make any unnecessary kills. Because he had been trying to save energy for the final battle on Earth or the loss of Gamora had been weighing on him, the Mad Titan was not putting his best foot forward in the battle.
For this theory to pan out, it would mean that Doctor Strange, would have had to have known that Thanos was pulling his punches-the very reason that the master of mystic arts had made a decision against transporting the Guardian away from the situation. As this theory reads, Thanos would have actually felt the need to extend his power without the Infinity Gauntlet, meaning Strange had known that they should not remove the Gauntlet from him.
Avengers: Endgame opens on April 26th. Other Marvel Studios films this year include Captain Marvel on March 8th and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th.
