The era of horror reboots is not really showing any signs of stopping, and now we have Final Destination as the next franchise to get the reboot treatment.
According to a news report by The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema hired Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton for rebooting this franchise. This duo is well-known for writing the scripts for 4 Saw films, and also, Piranha 3DD and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
The original Final Destination had earned $122 million on budget of a $23 million. Over the time span of 11 years, Final Destination had earned almost $700 million.
The upcoming 6th is now being described as the “re-imagining” of this franchise.
The Final Destination star, Tony Todd had been asked about a reboot, and he said that he doubts if another movie would actually see the light of day.
“I am [surprised] but I know why there hasn’t been [another sequel],” Todd had said.
“It’s really an expensive film to shoot. Just getting whatever accident set pieces, like for example part two with the whole traffic accident, that took a good five weeks to shoot and at least 20 million bucks. So there are other films like the Annabelle films which just focuses on a doll that they can shoot for a lot cheaper and still make money.”
