The Chinese born Singaporean well-known actress Gong Li was born on December 31, 1965, in Shenyang, Liaoning, China to Gong Lize and Liu Ying. She has 4 siblings. Her mother was a teacher and father was a professor of economics. She brought up in Jinan the capital of Shandong. In the year 1985, she was ratified to study at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing.
In the year 1989, she completed her graduation. When she was in the Central Academy of Drama, she was found out by Zhang Yimou, who selected her for the lead role in Red Sorghum, in his first film as a director. She accomplished international prominence through her intimate alliances with Chinese director Zhang Yimou and won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at Venice for her execution in his 1992 film The Story of Qiu Ju.
She has been associated with helping to bring Chinese film to importance in Europe and the United States. In the year 2006, she was voted the most beautiful woman in China. She appeared in many successful Chinese films including Codename Cougar, Ju Dou, A terracotta warrior, The Banquet, Mary from Beijing, Flirting Scholar, Farewell my Concubine, Breaking the Silence, 2046, Shanghai, Mulan, and many others. Gong has earned assorted commendations for her work as an actress; she won the New York Film Circle Award For Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Farewell My Concubine, Golden Rooster Awards, Hundred Flower Award, National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Memoirs of a Geisha.
She also won the Cannes film festival trophy, Satellite Award, Hongkong Award, and many others. Her private and professional connection with director Zhang Yimou has been highly promoted. In the year 1996, Gong wedded Singaporean tobacco baron Ooi Hoe Seong. On 28 June 2010, Gong’s agency verified that Gong Li and her husband had divorced. In 2019, Going wedded French musician Jean Michel Jarre.
