She was born on 30^th July in 1992 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. She won her first competitive 100m race in which she won gold. In 2009, she participated in her first race, the London Mini Marathon. In 2010, Peter Eriksson coached her and she broke her first World Record in the T34 400 meters. She made her senior Great Britain team debut when she was 19 at the IPC Athletics World Championships. She won gold in the T34 100 meters and the T34 200 meters. She won the Junior 200 meters and 400 meters world championship. She also broke the record in the London Olympic Stadium in 2012 in 100 meters. She won two gold medals in the 2012 Summer Paralympics. In 2014, she won the Sport Relief edition of Strictly Come Dancing partnered with Pasha Kovalev. At the Newham Open Meet in 2015, she lost the 400m race for the first time in her career to Kare Adenegan. In the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympic Games, she won three gold medals. In 2018, the first defeat in the international stage at the World Para Athletics European Championships in 100m race in which she won the silver.

In 2012, she was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Calderdale.
