New ‘Hellboy’ Reboot Trailer Released And The Fans Are Going Wild

It has surely been one hell of a time for Lionsgate, and after having announced that the very first trailer for Hellboy reboot will debut on Thursday, a scheduled tweet had caused this trailer to leak online for more than 24 hours earlier.

Since this trailer is now out, the studio has released this officially.

The all-new Hellboy film will mark the very first silver screen adventure that features the Dark Horse Comics character without its original creative team. Both the very first Hellboy film and the sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, had been directed by Guillermo del Toro and the movies had featured Ron Perlman as the demon hero.

Lionsgate has also tapped into the director of Game of Thrones, Neil Marshall for directing the Hellboy reboot movie with Stranger Things actor, David Harbour taking over Perlman in the lead role. As this trailer shows, this version of the character will be much darker, and also an R-rated take on the comic books.

According to the creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola, after many years of having released in theatres, it had been time for Hellboy to return.

“We went back and forth on that,” Mignola had said.

“Early on there was some idea of continuing the storyline that del Toro had started but would that be fair to a new director? So we decided to just start over. Neil is a horror director, so the idea then was to make a darker film. If you are going to use a guy, let him do what he does best.”

“So we went through the script taking out the del Toro-isms and in some ways go out of our way to make sure we are doing a different Hellboy with its own distinct character [as a project] but still adhering to the comics.”

Harbour has been joined by Sasha Lane, Ian McShane, Thomas Haden Church, Milla Jovovich and Daniel Dae Kim. Marshall will helm the movie, and the script is by Andrew Cosby.

Hellboy will release on April 12, 2019.
