Hera Hilmarsdóttir, professionally known as Hera Hilmar, is an Icelandic actress. She was born on 27 December, in the year 1988. She is most famous because of her role as the lead actress in the 2018 film Mortal Engines. Other notable characters among the best ones are Vanessa in the television series Da Vinci’s Demons and Eik in the Icelandic film Life in a Fishbowl.
Hilmar is the daughter of the actress Thorey Sigthorsdottir and the film director Hilmar Oddsson. Her grandfather was a theater director Oddur Björnsson and playwright. Hilmar began acting since childhood in several of her father’s films. She pursued her graduation from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in the year 2011. Hilmar is a fan of Björk and is fluent in a British accent. Throughout the tenure of her career, Hilmar got nominations for several awards. Hilmar got nominations for an Edda as Actress of the Year in a leading role in the year 2007 for her role in The Quiet Storm.
Later she won the same award consecutively for two times; first in the year 2015 for her performance as Eik in Life in a Fishbowl, and then in the year 2017 for her role as Anna in The Oath. She got chosen as one of Europe’s Shooting Stars at the Berlin International Film Festival in the year 2015, as well as winning a ‘special mention’ at the Zurich Film Festival for her philanthropic acting in Life in a Fishbowl. In February of the year 2017, she signed on for the lead role of Hester Shaw in the film, which was adapted from the novel of the same name by Philip Reeve, Mortal Engines. She starred as Maghra in the Apple TV+ series SEE recently, the wife of Baba Voss, a character played by Jason Momoa.
