Korean singer Hong Jin-young was recently caught in the crossfire of a controversy regarding her university degree. The thesis she wrote for her master’s paper during her years in University recorded a 74% plagiarism rate. Jin-young admitted that she had plagiarized a significant portion of her thesis.
Chosun University is presently taking steps to revoke her Master’s degree in Trade and her PhD in Business Administration. Born on August 9th, 1985, Jin-young is a South Korean trot singer and entertainer. For a brief period, she was a member of the South Korean girl group SWAN, debuting with them in 2007.

However, she left the group in 2009 and debuted into the music scene as a solo artist and a trot singer. She is famous for her characteristic vocal ability and signature aegyo. She has made several appearances on programs and events throughout South Korea.

Jin-young was born and raised in South Korea. She enjoys musicals, exercising, listening to music and singing. She pursued a Bachelor’s in Commerce and a Master’s in Trade from Chosun University. After procuring her degrees, she completed a doctoral course in Business Administration from the same university.

However, due to recent controversies revolving around Jin-young having plagiarized her Master’s papers, her Master’s and PhD degrees will be revoked by the University. Jin-young debuted with roles in small films and television shows such as ‘Who Slept With Her?’ and ‘YeonGaesomun’.

She had a brief run with a girl group called SWAN until going solo in 2009. She went on to release singles such as ‘Love Battery’, ‘My Love’ and ‘Boogie Man’. In 2014, she resigned from her management Core Contents Media. In November 2014, Jin-young released her first EP ‘Life Note’.
