Earlier we saw Jeff Goldblum return to the franchise in this year’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Trevorrow now feels that time has come for Neill and Dern to return to the Jurassic series.
The original Jurassic Park movie had Sam Neill and Laura Dern play the characters of Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler, respectively. They were back in Jurassic Park III where Neill had a starring role and Dern played a cameo. Maybe, the time has come for the stars of the original movie to get back into the spotlight in the third Jurassic World film.
Although they feature their own stories, the Jurassic World films have been greatly inspired by the Jurassic Park franchise. The movies are based on the same islands where the original movie was, and some of the dinosaurs are also the same. In fact, we have seen various original characters also come back for the series, Dr. Wu (BD Wong), has been a part of Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and as we mentioned above, Jeff Goldblum returned to play Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
While talking to MTV, the director Colin Trevorrow, who had made the first Jurassic World movie and will now be back to direct Jurassic World 3, disclosed that he is keen to see Sam Neill and Laura Dern come back to the franchise in the upcoming film. He said:
“We felt like [Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom] was Malcolm’s return. This was his… let him have his moment. I feel that way about everyone, especially Laura [Dern], in that she never got to have her own movie. That identified as being something that’s important. I feel like this moment with Goldblum, because he had this very clear set of ethical questions that he was able to pose for everyone, we just wanted to put the spotlight on him.”
This is by no means a confirmation of Neill or Dern’s comeback to the series, but, it does make her anticipate the comeback of Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler to the Jurassic series. The way Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ended, it is not going to create their entry into the next story. Contrary to the previous movies, this time the dinosaurs will pay a visit to the heroes, and not the other way round.
While this MTV news must not be believed in total, since Jurassic World 3 is at a very early developmental stage, there is no harm in expecting some of the original characters to return. At least seeing more of Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) would be a delight for the fans of Jurassic Park. Let’s wait and find out how many of the original Jurassic Park characters return to the franchise in Jurassic World 3 when it releases in June 2021.
