She was born on 3rd January in 1983 in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland. She is the daughter of Mary and Paul McGrath. She completed her graduation from Trinity College with a degree in history.
McGrath began her career as a fashion journalist and worked at Imagine magazine. Later, she took a job as a wardrobe assistant on the set of The Tudors. There, she has been inspired to become an actress and she sent her photographs to Irish agent. In 2007, she was cast in the television film, Damage and then, she played in the production of La Marea. In 2008, she appeared in the television series, The Tudors.
She came to prominence after being cast as Morgana Pendragon in the series, Merlin to which she was attached from 2008-2012. She also played the role of Princess Margaret in the series The Queen. She got her fame for playing the role of Lucy Westenra in the series Dracula. McGrath appeared in the music video, From Eden in 2014.
She got a recurring role as Lena Luthor in the series Supergirl in which she is working since 2016. In 2019, she played Saskia de Merindol in the series, Secret Bridesmaids’ Business. She was cast in several films such as W.E., Leading Lady, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Jurassic World, The Throwaways, etc.
She is in a relationship with her co-star Colin Morgan.
She has not won any awards yet but was nominated for the Teen Choice Award, Monte-Carlo TV Festival Award, etc.
