The American actress who was mainly known for her film, Days of Wine and Roses and the Broadway theatre performance in Wait Until Dark is none other than Lee Remick.
She was born on 14th December in 1935 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the U.S. Her father was Gertrude Margaret and mother was Francis Edwin Remick. She joined the Hewitt School and she studied acting at Barnard College and the Actors Studio.
She made her debut in acting with the Broadway theatre in 1953 with Be Your Age. After that, she appeared in several productions. In 1957, she made her debut in films and appeared in Face in the Crowd. After appearing in the film, she starred as Eula Varner in the film, The Long, Hot Summer in 1958. She came to prominence after appearing as a rape victim in the film Anatomy of a Murder in 1959. The following year, she appeared in the role of Miranda in The Tempest. She was nominated for the Academy Award for her performance in the film, Days of Wine and Roses in 1962 in which played the role of an alcoholic wife. She replaced Marilyn Moore in the comedy film, Something’s Got to Give. In 1964, she made her returned to Broadway and appeared in the musical Anyone Can Whistle. She was nominated for the Tony Award for the Broadway production of Wait Until Dark in 1966. Apart from that, she appeared in several television films as well. In 1987, she starred in the film, Emma’s War. Her final work was seen in the television film, Dark Holiday in 1989. Some of her films are Experiment in Terror, The Detective, A Served Head, Tribute, The Medusa Touch, and many more.
From 1957-1968, she was married to producer Bill Colleran with whom she had two children. Later in 1970, she married William Rory Gowans and was married to him until her death.
On 2nd July 1991, she died of kidney cancer at her home at the age of 55.
She has achieved the Golden Globe Award, BAFTA Award, ACE Award, Golden Laurel Award, etc.
