The American actress who started her film career at an early age and appeared in several successful films and then in the television series and became famous for her role in the series Christmas Eve is none other than Loretta Young.

She was born on 6^th January in 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the U.S. her parents were Gladys and John Earle Young. She along with her family moved to Hollywood after her parents got divorced when she was three.

At the age of two or three, she appeared in the silent film, Sweet Kitty Bellairs. After that, she was discovered by John McCormick who saw potential in the young girl. In 1917, she appeared in the silent film, Sirens of the Sea. Then in 1928, she appeared in The Whip Woman. In 1935, she starred in the film, The Call of the Wild. She appeared in Ladies Courageous at the time of World War II. In 1947, she appeared in the film, The farmer’s Daughter for which she received the Academy Award. Two years later, she was cast in the film, Come to the Stable for which she was nominated for the Academy Award. She appeared in the last theatrical film, It Happens Every Thursday in 1953. Her other film credits are Scarlet Seas, Fast Life, The Ruling Voice, Midnight May, Clive of India, Because of You, and many more. She also appeared in several TV series but got famous for appearing on Christmas Eve for which she won the Golden Globe Award.

At the age of 17, she eloped and married the actor Grant Withers in 1930 but they got divorced in 1931. Later in 1940, she married Tom Lewis with she had two sons. The couple divorced in 1969. In 1993, she married her third husband, Jean Louis, with whom she was with till his death in 1997.

On 12^th August in 2000, she died of ovarian cancer at her maternal sister’s home.

Apart from winning the Academy Award, she has won the Golden Globe Award, Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Apple Award, Star on the Walk of Fame, and others.
