She began her career by working as a receptionist at a New York City advertising agency. There, she was spotted by a photographer and after that, she started her career as a model. After that, she took a long hiatus from film and returned in 1983 with the feature film, Table for Five in the role of Jon Voight’s ex-wife. Then, she appeared in the role of Andy Garcia’s mother in the film, The Lost City in 2005. Her other films are Wild in the Country, Wild in the Streets, Bodily Harm, The Chamber, Call Me Anna, Wall Street, Penalty Phase, The Other Lover, and many more. In 1983, she first appeared in the television series, Knots Landing in the role of Jane Summer. She was attached to the series till 1990. She appeared in the television mini-series, Elvis in the role of Gladys Presley in 1990. Her other television credits are A.D., Any Day Now, The Young and the Restless, etc.

From 1960-1962, she was married to actor Dean Stockwell. Later in 1964, she got married to writer and director, Robert Thom with whom she has two children. She was with him till his death in 1979.
