In 2011, Rebecca Black and her mother got into legal issues with ARK Music over the right of Black’s song, Friday. Her mother claimed that ARK Music didn’t fulfill the agreement and they also sold a Friday ringtone without Black’s permission despite Black was exclusively signed to the label. ARK Music also charged $2.99 to watch the video on YouTube. Later, the music video was removed from YouTube and it was later restored to YouTube on Black’s official channel.
In 2010, Black signed a contract with ARK Music Factory and released her debut single, Friday. But the single received negative views at first and some days later, the song ranked at number 61 on the UK Singles Chart. After uploading the song on YouTube, she also got a death threat. But after, the song went viral and in 2011, Black released her second single, My Moment after started an independent record label, RB Records. That year, she released her third single, Person of Interest.
In 2012, she released two singles, Sing It and In Your Words. She also appeared in Primetime Nightline: Celebrity Secrets special, Underage and Famous: Inside Child Stars’ Lives. She then signed to Maker Studios YouTube network. In 2016, she created a web video on Go90, Life After Friday. That year, she released her next single, The Great Divide. In 2017, she released her EP, RE/ BL that covered two songs. In 2018, she released her new single, Satellite. In 2018, she participated in season 2 of the reality television musical competition series, The Four: Battle for Stardom but she was eliminated soon later. In 2019, she released three singles, Do You, Anyway, and Sweetheart.
She was born on 21st June in 1997 in Irvine, California, U.S. Her parents are John Jeffery Black and Georgina Marquez Kelly. She is of English, Mexican, Polish, and Italian descent.
She has won the Teen Choice Award in 2011.
