Avengers: Infinity War had been the most anticipated films ever. This film had coalesced for more than 10 years of moviemaking and finally showed us more than 40 superheroes from all corners of the shared universe, the MCU. It was almost like a choreographed dance performance but packed with mayhem, carnage and six stones. The fans had seen Thanos destroy the universe and although the Avengers tried to stop him, they failed. When Thanos had gotten his hands on the last stone, he was impaled through his chest by Thor’s the Stormbreaker. This damage to the Mad Titan is substantial and also inconsequential as Thanos immediately snaps his fingers and wipes out half of the universe.
Thanos had just damaged his weapon, and the snap had also damaged the Gauntlet. But the real question is, did this damage the Infinity Gauntlet beyond forever? One fan had wondered about this, so he had asked this question to the Russo brothers:
“Perhaps, but there is a cost to using the power of the Stones,” the directors responded.
“See there, with his Gauntlet and the arm, the power that it takes to use all six Stones is significant, and clearly damaged the Gauntlet and damaged Thanos permanently,”
All the readers were very curious to see if the scene where Thanos meets Gamora happens in the soul world. The fan base had theorised that Gamora would be in the soul stone, and this is exactly where Thanos had gone to interact with her, but then the directors had clarified this scene:
“The power that it took Thanos to click his fingers, he’s so dramatic that if you look closely at the film and the damage of the gauntlet,” Russo had said.
“You look closely at the very last scene; it damages his arm dramatically. And that moment when he clicks his fingers sends him into this ethereal plan inside of the Soul Stone where as part of his quote-unquote hero’s journey in the film, he has one last moment to convey a sense of guilt about what he’s done. It illustrates what a complicated character he is. So, to clarify, it’s a spiritual representation of her, and obviously, that’s something that the Soul Stone has power to do. But really, it’s there to illustrate his pain and his guilt. I wouldn’t read much more into it beyond that.”
The fans had seen Thanos go on a crusade for these six stones and we also saw him collect and even destroy half the universe. He may eventually be able to recoup all the power that he had once had, but this may cause him a lot of pain.
Avengers 4 will hit the theatres worldwide on May 4, 2019.
