She was born on 22^nd July in 1923 in Kershaw County, South Carolina. She was married to Walter Carroll with whom she has a daughter. After getting divorced from her first husband, she married Buddy Lee in 1961 but they got divorced in 1970.

On November 2, 2007, Moolah died of a heart attack or blood clot-related to a shoulder replacement surgery.
