The Resident Evil reboot movie is all set to take this franchise back to the horror roots. Being based on the video game franchise, the Resident Evil movies had become very well-established and defined by their OTT action. The franchise had eventually left behind the games’ horror elements. However, this upcoming reboot movie which will be produced by James Wan will lean a lot more into frightening imagery. The fans can all get ready for something super exciting coming their way.

While talking with Discussing Film, the screenwriter, Greg Russo had explained that he wanted to return this series to its horror-based tone. He had also cited 2017’s game, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard as the inspiration. The upcoming movie will be packed with a whole lot of horror elements and will remind the audiences of the original movie and games.

Greg Russo had also spoken about the legacy that the previous movie series had left behind:

“Not to shame the original film franchise that was made, I think that did very well,” he had said.

“When you create a fresh reboot and look at the over-the-top action of the Paul Anderson franchise, it was fun and really cool but at the end of the day, for me as a fan of the original game franchise I always considered the franchise to be horror at the forefront and action as a secondary feature. So it just made sense to go back to the horror roots.”

The writer had noted that his involvement has now ended as the final draft has been submitted.

“so I’m not sure what they’ll really do with it.” Martin Moszkowicz, Constantin Film’s executive had suggested way back in May. He had said that the reboot movie may be destined for the TV platform rather than the big screens.
