The American actress who also made her career in Broadway productions and widely known for her character in the comedy sitcom Gilligan’s Island in the role of Ginger Grant is none other than Tina Louise.
She was born on 11th February in 1934 in New York City, New York. She is the daughter of Sylvia Horn Blacker and Joseph Blacker.
She started her career at the age of 2 by doing an ad for her father’s candy store. In 1958, she was offered modeling jobs and she appeared on the cover of magazines like Modern Man and Adam Sir. She was also photographed for Playboy. She made her debut in acting in 1952 with the musical revue Two’s Company. She worked in several productions like Almanac, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter, The Fifth Season, Li’l Abner, etc. She made her debut on television in 1956 with the television series Studio One. Afterward, she has played in numerous television series but she got her fame after playing the character of Ginger Grant in the comedy sitcom Gilligan’s Island from 1964 to 1967. She was also offered to reprise her role in the television movie but she turned it down. The other television series in which she appeared include Climax, Checkmate, Mr. Broadway, Bonanza, Mannix, Kung Fu, Dallas, Roseanne, All My Children, and many others. She made her film debut in 1958 with the film God’s Little Acre in the role of Griselda Walden. She also appeared in several films include The Trap, The Warrior Empress, Armored Command, The Seventh Floor, The Happy Ending, Call to Danger, and others.
She released her first record album It’s Time for Tina in 1957. In 2006, she published her first novel Stupid and Contagious.
In 1966, she married Les Crane with whom she has a daughter. They divorced in 1971.
She has been nominated for a Golden Laurel Award and won a Golden Globe Award.
