She became very famous and also won two Golden Globe Awards for appearing in the film, The Boy Friend in 1971 in the role of Polly Browne. In 1974, she made her stage debut with the production of Cinderella. She also appeared on David Bowie’s seventh album, Pin Ups and sang in Roger Glover’s album, The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper’s Feast in 1975. In 1976, she signed with Mercury Records and released her debut album, The Boyfriend. Afterward, she released many albums. In 1980, she made a cameo role in the film, The Blues Brother. She made her Broadway debut in 1983 with the musical, My One and Only. Her other films are Club Paradise, There Goes The Bride, Madame Sousatzka, Edge of Seventeen, The Doctor and the Devils, Body Bags, and many more. She also appeared in several TV series such as The Muppet Show, The Nanny, Absolutely Fabulous, Heartbeat, What Do You Think You Are, and so on.

From 1977-1983, she was married to actor Michael Witney with whom she had a daughter. After the death of Michael in 1983, she got married to Leigh Lawson in 1988. He adopted her daughter later.
