2019 is set to be a huge year for all the Marvel fans, with the film, Captain Marvel all set to release by next week, followed by Avengers: Endgame in April. We will then see Spider-Man: Far From Home after that. With all this excitement, a few of the fans might have actually overlooked something very sobering-it might be a long wait before the next Marvel Studios movie makes its way on to the silver screen.
In a very recent post on Twitter, Robert Liefeld had made a pretty interesting observation about the Marvel films, and he had pointed out that once the film, Spider-Man: Far From Home releases, there will not be another Marvel movie coming in for another year.
“Still wrapping my head around the fact that there are no Marvel movies currently filming,” he had written.
“So a full year absent Marvel films following Spider-Man?”
Liefeld is referring to MCU movies, but if you want to actually break things down and be specific, Spider-Man: Far From Home might be part of the MCU, but it is actually a Sony movie and not that of Marvel Studios. When it comes down to Marvel Studios movies, the next release date on is not until May 1, 2020.
While May 2020 might not feel like a pretty long wait, we must remember that there have been two MCU movies per year since Iron Man’s debut. Very recently, we had three movies -2018 with Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and also, Ant-Man and the Wasp.
The wait for an all-new Marvel Studios movie might feel very long for narrative reasons as well. While there has been a whole lot of speculation, and many countless theories, none of us know what will happen in the film, Endgame or Far From Home.
While it has been expected that the Avengers movie will bring the current chapter of the MCU to an end, the new chapter will leave all the fans wanting more as Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios head had said that everything in the future will be “unique.”
“Everything after [Avengers] Endgame, and after Spider-Man: Far From Home, will be different and be unique, as we try to make every film. But seeing returning characters is certainly something we’re gonna do and want to do. But also introducing characters that the majority of the world has never heard of, much like Guardians [of the Galaxy], much like Avengers before we made Avengers. And there are lots of them,” Feige had said.
Captain Marvel will release on March 8th. Other upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films include Avengers: Endgame on April 26th and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th.
