The Dominican volleyball player who has competed at the 2015 FIVB Club World Championship and became famous after some of her photos playing and training for volleyball and some personal pictures fake-went viral in 2016 is none other than Winifer Fernandez.
She was born on 6th January in 1996 in Cienfuegos, Santiago, Dominican Republic. She started playing football when she was 10 under the coach, Miguel Duran. Later in 2009, she moved to Santo Domingo to join the junior national team.
She won a bronze medal at the 2008 Dominican Republic Volleyball League. At the age of 15, she won the Best Receiver, Best Libero, and Best Digger awards at the 2010 NORCEA Youth Championship. She also won a bronze medal at the 2011 Girls’ Youth Pan-America Cup. She made her debut in the senior national team at the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix where she got mixed reviews. She got a gold medal at the 2012 Junior NORCECA Championship. She also helped her team to win gold at the 2012 U23 Pan-American Cup. She took part in the FIVB U20 World Championship in 2013 and ranked 8th with her national junior team. She also played at the 203 FIVB World Grand Prix and her team ranked in 10th position. In 2015, she joined the Dominican Club, Mirador and won a gold medal at the NORCECA Champions Cup and qualified for the 2015 FIVB World Cup. She got a silver medal at the Pan-American Cup and in the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix, her national team became 12th. She played at the World Grand Prix with her team and won a gold medal. But her team didn’t qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. She also won the U23 Pan-American Cup and the 2017 FIVB U23 World Championship with her U23 national team. She participated in the 2017 FIVB U23 World Championship but lost it. She received a gold medal at the 2017 Bolivarian Games.
